Christus Apollo

Dynamic new recording of the composer's concert work from 69-70, featuring Music For Orchestra, Christus Apollo and Fireworks from 99. Powerhouse performances from the LSO and the London Voices are joined by Anthony Hopkins narrating Ray Bradbury's poetic words.

Music For Orchestra remains the highlight even though the arrangement differs from the original. Goldsmith's immensely dark but ultimately thrilling music provides the listener with an assault on the senses. Christus Apollo's operatic setting makes for an interesting listen with less emphasis on music, but perfectly pitched not to overwhelm the choir or narration. The album climaxes with the crowd pleaser; Fireworks. An exhilarating piece written for a massive Fireworks display in 1999. Goldsmith introduces a triumphant central theme on the grand scale of Rudy before returning to a percussive maelstrom of sound for its finale.

A fabulous disc, beautifully packaged by Telarc and utilising the latest recording technologies. A must have for film music and non film music listeners alike.

Note: Now available in SACD as well as standard CD form.
