A Star Beyond Time

Has anyone ever heard the "pop" version of "Ilia's Theme" from Star Trek - The Motion Picture called "A Star Beyond Time". It's sung by Shaun Cassidy and was only issued as a promo album in 1980. It features music by Goldsmith and lyrics by Larry Kusik.

Here are the lyrics:

There's a star beyond time,
Floating in space,
Waiting for you and me.

Though we're planets apart,
Love is the bridge,
Joining our galaxies.

Come with me,
We'll conquer the unknown,
Where no ones ever flown,
To one star that we'll make our own.

Where the universe ends,
Our world begins,
Somewhere beyond the dawn.

Come with me,
We'll conquer the unknown,
Where no ones ever flown,
To one star that we'll make our own.

Where the universe ends,
Our world begins,
Somewhere beyond the dawn.

It's actually not a bad song, and now I can't listen to "Ilia's Theme" without hearing those lyrics.

With a lyric like THAT, I'm glad I've never heard it!:D

No kidding. Those lyrics are awful! Very cheezy! I'd like to hear it for the sake of hearing it out of interest....but for nothing else. Ick!

I prefer "A Star Beyond Time" to Bob James' jazz version of the "Main Theme from Star Trek - The Motion Picture". Both cues are on my 2 disc assembly of TMP since they were official tie-ins. In fact, the Bob James album came in a sleeve with the same picture of the Enterprise that was an insert with the original TMP album.

As far as I know, the lyric "We'll conquer the unknown" should be "We'll star trek the unknown" instead...

I was listening to the song as I typed those lyrics and listened to it again to make sure I got it right. Perhaps you are confusing it with the lyrics Gene Roddenberry shoe horned into Courage's main theme from the original series, which does indeed have the lyrics "star trek" at one point.

Sounds good, I sung it in mind, and all the words fit exactly in the melody...

Is there a CD of this stuff?

Negative.

Most certainly the Shaun Cassidy version has altered the lyrics.

You can check the original lyrics at the FSM site.

I have a 16 second sample to send out if you are interested in hearing this.

It's not necessary... I'm sure the lyrics in the Shaun Cassidy version reads exactly as you said...

It's just my opinion that he altered the original, as I've seen the same FSM lyrics somewhere else before...

Hello,

Here's another a more complete lyric (I don't know if it is the original):

There's a star beyond time
Floating in space
Waiting for you and me
Though we're planets apart
Love is the bridge
Joining our galaxies
Come with me
We'll star trek the unknown
Where no one's ever flown
To one star that we'll make our own
Where the universe ends
Our world begins
Somewhere beyond the dawn
On our way to the stars millions of lights shining like secret skies. Strange, exotic new worlds, light fantasies unfold before our rise

My life’s been so beautiful to see, so lashed to galaxies unfold the story majesty

Tomorrow behind come and be mine, journey through time with me

We must call a Star Trek to explore the place where stars are born on pathways never known before

The unknown is known, our journey is through then I’ll get home with you

bye
