The Public Eye (rejected)

Somebody finally did it: re-created a piece of music from it:

Brought to my attention by an altnerate thread at FSM for it:

The New Number 2: "Are you going to run?"
Number 6: "Like blazes. The first chance I get."

Interesting. Can't gauge too much from that short cue though. Where is the full score mentioned in the thread?

Sadly, today we now know why the score hasn't been released. Posted today by Roger over at the FSM forums:

Just so you know, no recording of a rejected score to Public Eye has surfaced anywhere.

I mean, that's pretty much what we'd all already figured, right?

The only other remote possibility I'd even considered was this: Varese controls the rights because they released the Mark Isham score in the 90s, and Jerry somehow asked Robert Townson to never release the score or something (like James Horner asked Intrada not to release his rejected score to Young Guns). But I thought that was a long shot, because Varese has released other rejected Goldsmith scores...

Well, that was the main assumption, but it's not all it could have been. Other things it could have been:

1. Not all the cues could be found. Missing reels.

2. The rights were tough to work through.

3. The company who has them didn't want to play ball, like the people who have "Slipstream".

Good news on this. I checked with MRT and although he didnít have any tapes himself a DAT was sent to JG at the time and has been found by Carol and the score is being worked on for release by a label who releases JG soundtracks quite a lot. But be warned how long it will take to do the paperwork on it is another matter so donít hold your breath.

OH. MY.

This is the most unbelievably fantastic news I could have imagined. An almost totally lost Goldsmith score, discovered in its original recorded form after a long disappearance? Just WOW!

It makes you wish you could fly over there and donate your time just to go through all the DAT's in his collection, just to make sure it's catalogued and we know what is and isn't there.

Damnit I wish I was there now doing that.
