Travelling Executioner

Minor 1970 outing highlighting the extreme variety of Jerry Goldsmith's early career. Executioner finds the composer in the deep south and features a bluesy gospel enthused main theme introducing the bizarre title character. Goldsmith's likable score also highlights the dusty wide open spaces of this desolate landscape with favourites such as harmonica and some minor electronics. A particularly delicate love theme highlights the main orchestral passages and the doomed relationship of the lead characters. As usual FSM have produced a top notch looking disc and enjoyable notes plus a loud, proud stereo sound that's a revelation considering the age of this recording.

Expanded review to follow.
